Dude, so we saw the largest fireworks show in all of EUROPE! It was HERE, in Annecy, and we saw it! Saturday night! In Annecy they celebrate the lake. They're French - any excuse for a cultural celebration and they're all over it. So you can pay 30 euros (about $46) to get a bleacher seat right in front of the spot on the lake where they shoot off the show. Or, you can be like us, and walk down to the edge of the lake on the adjacent part and watch the show from a distance. Or you can be like the hundreds of people who drove their boats right up to the fireworks platforms and got to see the same show for free. From where we were, the works were a bit on the small side, but as the French say - "tant pis" (whatever, so what, it don't matter). But what they lacked in size (from our distance), they made up in length - the show was an hour and a half long!!! And synchronized to music! There were so many colors and shapes and waves of fireworks, we were in awe big time.
Yesterday, we got up early and went for a beautiful hike! It was nice because there weren't 10,000 students running around - it was just 6 of us staff members, which was really chill. It really felt like the Sound of Music because it wasn't that strenuous at all and the mountains were just in the distance in every direction. And it was the most gorgeous day ever. Probably the highlight was our lunch break overlooking this beautiful view while we ate ham and cheese sandwiches on baguette. Can't be beat! Anyone who's had a sandwich au jambon, I know you're jealous.
After the hike, we went to a nearby Monastery to catch the monks who sing at 5PM each day. It was pretty neat!
