Field Trips, Road Races and CHEESE!

Hi All,

Here are the highlights of the past few days in the life of Andrea!

Field Trip: I organized an excursion for the Alpine Lakes course taught here in Talloires. We went on a tour of the lake by boat, visited the castle/museum in the old part of Annecy, and got a tour of a water treatment facility nearby. It went really well, and we met the most knowledgeable 15 year old French boy, who interned at the treatment place and told us every technical detail involved in cleaning poo out of water that you would ever want to know.

Road Race: I also organized this 1.75 mile race for the students, faculty and staff called the St. Germain Pilgrimage. Everyone runs/jogs/walks up an incredibly steep course up to a beautiful church overlooking the entire village. Unfortunately it was cool and drizzly, but we got an enthusiastic crowd and everyone had a good time.

Cheese: The best part about hosting rich big-wigs for conferences here at the Priory are 1) we get taken out to dinner, 2) those dinners are followed by dessert and 3) we get the leftovers from their catered meals! Together, that translates into amazing wine, Andrea consuming way too much bread and cheese, and general happiness. The food around here is delicious and interesting. My favorites so far were a melon/ham salad, goat cheese salad, pizza, steak tartare (I just had a bite but it was great!) and just plain ham and cheese sandwiches! Cooking all together as a group is fun as well. For a faculty potluck, I made a tartiflette for 25 people - which is a caserole-like dish with Roblechon cheese, potatoes, ham, and onions. It was delicious!

Other than that, I've had the opportunity to chase a random dog through town because he stole my frisbee, shave a mohawk into another intern's head, meet a man who owns a Mazeratti, Ferrari, and multiple other impressive cars, and play Yahtzee in a French club. And it's sorta sunny today, yay!

More to come! Love, Andrea
